What happened to Evolve? I played Evolve to level 40 and maxed out my class Medic well before the 2nd gen hunters dropped. I took a vacation from this game to play some others and returned recently to check out Season 2 and this is unacceptable. To beat a dead horse, Matchmaking is worse than it was in the Alpha build. Everyone is saying it and it needs a fix badly. When not dealing with that, there is a a good chance I have to deal with host drops, errors or the game flat out crashing and booting me back to the home screen. And, for the final twist of the knife, I am punished for “abandoning the game”, have a loss put on my record and have to tack on even more time. I have to set aside an entire night just to have a few matches with my buddies or rough up some hunters as a monster after work.

Evolve comes out tomorrow. It’s one of the larger games of the first quarter of , so you’ve probably heard about it even if you’re not one of the people picking it up. It builds on the same basic gameplay found in Left 4 Dead, but puts an additional player in the antagonist’s chair: four hunters versus one monster. I’m not particularly hyped on the title after playing in the alpha and beta phases.

World of Tanks WoT is a massively multiplayer online game developed by Belarusian company Wargaming , featuring midth century s—s era combat vehicles. The focus is on player vs. World of Tanks has been ported to multiple gaming consoles. World of Tanks has also expanded to mobile platforms under the title World of Tanks Blitz , in addition to a board game titled World of Tanks Rush and a collectible card game titled World of Tanks: Generals.

The player takes control of a single armored tank of their choice, and is placed into a battle on a random map. The player has control over the vehicle’s movement, firing, and can communicate with allied players and all the other players through typed or voice chat. A simple random match is won either by destroying all vehicles on the opposing team or capturing the opposing team’s base by staying in it for long enough without being hurt.

There are other game modes that change the rules of the battle, but gameplay mechanics remain the same. World of Tanks contains multiple game mechanics such as camouflage, shell ricochets, and module damage. The players in World of Tanks can choose six primary types of battles: random battles, team-training battles, tank-company battles, team battles, stronghold battles and special battles. Historical Battle and Rampage are former options but have since been taken down for improvement upon its poor reception following its release.

Within random battles, players can also participate in platoons , groups of two or three players who are put into the same team.

Matchmaking

Turtle Rock hasn’t been shy about getting Evolve into the hands of players. The developer provided play sessions at virtually every gaming convention over the past year, and offered fans extended alpha and beta sessions before release. That “proof is in the pudding” approach revealed the core gameplay experience of Evolve, but also opened the door to questions about its breadth and longevity. At long last, the final game is here, and remains true to what we’ve seen before; Evolve is a concentrated and highly replayable experience, if you can accept the limitations of its unique format.

With the advent of Resident Evil 3’s large multiplayer offerings, asymmetrical online games may finally become a trend among mainstream gaming. After announcing the end of support for Evolve two years ago, 2K and Turtle Rock finally release a timeline of important end of life dates and what players can expect. The next round of free games for Xbox Live Gold members in March have been announced, and the list includes co-op shooter Evolve and Borderlands 2.

Left 4 Dead and Evolve developer Turtle Rock Studios reveals that it is working on a new game, which will have co-op FPS gameplay and ‘plenty of baddies to shoot. Even after a successful resurrection as a free-to-play game on Steam, Turtle Rock Studios announces that support for the multiplayer-centric title, Evolve, is coming to an end. After re-launching as a free to play title less than a week ago, Turtle Rock Studios announces that Evolve has brought in over one million new players on Steam.

We first looked at Evolve late last year when the game was still in its alpha phase, finding a new take on the team-based multiplayer shooter that felt fresh and fun to play, built upon the first multi-platform outing we’d seen for the powerful CryEngine middleware. However, while graphics and gameplay shaped up rather nicely, the experience was hit heavily by server issues and inconsistent matchmaking, leading to extremely long waiting times between matches, not to mention irksome disconnections during play.

Three months on, the Evolve beta test is intended to allow for last-minute balance and gameplay tweaks before launch, in addition to large-scale testing of netcode optimisations made since the alpha. The new sampler also gives us more content, showcasing two new maps and a brief training session. In addition to the single-round skirmish mode seen in the alpha, the beta also introduces multiplayer and single-player campaigns in the form of Evacuation – though selecting them simply plays a video trailer, as opposed to offering up any playable content.

The final game is set to offer these two primary modes and four different game types Hunt, Nests, Rescue, and Defend , but only Skirmish and Hunt are available in the beta. Getting stuck into the multiplayer portion available, the good news is that online stability has clearly improved over the code showcased late last year, although not to the extent that we’d hoped so close to the game’s launch. Of the two console versions, it’s the PS4 game that currently feels as though it needs a little more work, particularly in terms of general matchmaking.

Right now, quickly getting into a game on Sony’s system is often an inconsistent process: sometimes we were matched up with other players in under a minute, sometimes we were left waiting up to 20 minutes. In comparison, matchmaking generally took between a few seconds and maximum of five minutes on Xbox One and PC. Both PS4 and Xbox One target 30fps gameplay, but it’s the Sony platform that enjoys full p resolution. Disconnections remain an issue – but not one we experienced ourselves.

Rather, we noticed it happening a few times to other players. It happened more often while playing on the Microsoft console, accompanied by a message reporting server connection issues ‘that may cause disruption’.
